What Is the Point of Community College, Ask Some Students?

There may have been a significant decline in community college enrollment, according to recent studies. Some enroll in community college courses in order to receive training for a job. Some enroll in less expensive coursework at community colleges before transferring to a four-year institution. Compared to four-year universities, community colleges can save thousands of dollars in tuition. However, some companies claim that employees from community colleges are not necessarily prepared for positions, and some students argue that credits earned at community colleges do not always transfer to four-year universities. In addition, a lot of opportunities are available to those without a college degree, leading some people to conclude that a college education is not necessary.

The number of students attending community colleges in the United States has decreased by around 2.6 million, or 37 percent, since 2010. These figures are from the non-profit National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. Many are surprised by this because, in the same time frame, the expense of higher education in the United States increased dramatically. A private four-year college can set you back more than $40,000. The average annual cost of a community college is less than $4,000. Some even come with no cost.

In order to figure out what to do, Camara claimed he had to “run from office to office.” After two school terms, Camara left Shoreline and he now works at a restaurant and plays music in two bands.
