Pakistani city with the worst air quality

Lahore, the second-biggest city in Pakistan, has been declared the global metropolis with the worst air pollution in 2022. Every year, the Swiss air purifier manufacturer IQAir releases a study on global air quality. Researchers and governmental organizations everywhere acknowledge the report. Based on the existence of airborne particles that harm the lungs, IQAir calculates air pollution. The particles are called PM2.5. The data used in IQAir’s report is gathered from 30,000 air quality monitors located in 131 different nations.

Lahore’s PM2.5 concentration was 97.4 micrograms per cubic meter in 2022. From 86.5 in 2021, that is an increase. Hotan, a city in China, came in second with 94.3 micrograms. The next two cities on the list were Dehli itself and Bhiwadi, an Indian city outside of Dehli. Both of those cities had microgram counts exceeding 92. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended that the maximum amount of PM2.5 in cities be limited to 5 micrograms per cubic meter. Accordingly, the most polluting cities on IQAir’s ranking had 18–20 times the permissible amount.

According to IQAir, as of 2022, the most polluted country in the world was Chad, an African nation. In Chad, the average measurement was 89.7. It was Iraq with 80.1. Bahrain ranked fourth, and Pakistan third. Bangladesh was the most polluted country in 2021. In 2022, it dropped to fifth. The two countries in Central and South Asia with the poorest air quality were India and Pakistan. According to the report, 60% of people in Central and South Asia reside in regions with extremely bad air quality. Ten percent of the world’s population lives in areas where the quality of the air poses a health risk, according to the IQAir assessment. Guam, a U.S. island in the Pacific Ocean, has the cleanest air of any nation, according to IQAir. Australia’s Canberra was found to have the cleanest air for a capital city.
