Recently, Argentina established a new national organization with the goal of growing the cannabis market there. Ministers anticipate that the action will contribute to the nation of South America generating new exports and jobs. The Economy Minister, Sergio Massa, stated at a conference to introduce the national hemp and cannabis agency, ARICCAME, that “this opens the door for Argentina to start a new path in terms of industrial exports, on the basis of huge global demand. He continued, “All this needs to be transformed into an industry which generates work, which generates exports for Argentina and which generates value.”
Massa announced that the organization would start collaborating with businesses and local government. According to him, Argentina’s reliance on projects connected to the industrial and agricultural sectors depends on demand. The business has the potential to generate thousands of new employment, technological advancements, and new exportable goods, according to Francisco Echarren, the agency’s new leader. “We have a huge challenge ahead of us,” he stated, “not only getting a new industry on its feet, but giving millions of Argentines access to products that improve quality of life.” In 2017, Argentina legalized the use of cannabis oil for medical purposes. The federal government was now able to cultivate the plant for medicinal and research purposes thanks to this modification.
Argentina legalized home cultivation of marijuana in 2020 for medical use. Additionally, the act legalized the sale of cannabis-derived products by pharmacies. Furthermore, the new regulation mandated that insurance companies pay for medicinal marijuana for individuals who had a doctor’s written consent. In 2013, Uruguay became the first contemporary nation to explicitly legalize the cultivation, sale, and consumption of marijuana. President Gustavo Petro of Colombia has also discussed the need for more legislation to develop the nation’s cannabis market.
