The Singapore Airlines Group has been recognized with two awards at the annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards presented by Air Transport World (ATW) magazine. Goh Choon Phong, the CEO of SIA, received the Excellence in Leadership Award for 2024, while Scoot, the low-cost division of the business, was named Value Airline of the Year. Following ATW’s 2023 designation of SIA as Airline of the Year, SIA receives two more honors in 2024. The winner this year is Delta, a US airline. One of the most sought-after awards in the aviation sector is the ATW Airline Industry Achievement Award. A panel of editors and analysts from ATW and trade publications Center for Aviation and Routes chooses the winners.
According to Karen Walker, editor-in-chief of ATW, SIA and Scoot are well-known airlines that lead the world in customer service, innovation, operational efficiency, and staff welfare. I’m happy that Mr. Goh Choon Phong will be honored as the 2024 ATW Excellence in Leadership award because that requires imaginative leadership, the speaker continued. According to ATW, the award recognizes not only Mr. Goh’s achievements to the SIA Group but also SIA and Scoot’s impressive comeback from the difficulties brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. Both carriers were first off the blocks when borders reopened under Mr. Goh’s direction at SIA Group, and they were able to hold onto their top positions in the airline sector, it continued.
Despite facing cost pressures and rising competition, the company’s bottom line has continued to grow. Last week, the company released its third-quarter results showing net profit grew 4.9 per cent to $659 million in the three months to Dec 31. Revenue rose 4.9 per cent to $5.1 billion, an all-time quarterly high.
