The message from President Xi Jinping to the American students

A letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping was given to students at Muscatine High School in Muscatine, Iowa, as a special present. In front of hundreds of Chicagoans from all walks of life, Chinese Consul General Zhao Jian presented the letter to Jennifer Fridley, principal of Susan Clark Junior High of the Muscatine Community School District, at a reception here on Tuesday to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the founding of China-U.S. relations. During her remarks, Fridley expressed the school’s gratitude for being one of the first educators and students to take part in the 50,000-student exchange program.

About the rich culture and heritage of the Chinese people, we learned so much,” Fridley remarked. “Seeing China in person is an experience that none of us will soon forget. In November 2023, while on a visit to the US, Xi declared that China is prepared to extend invitations to 50,000 US youth for study and exchange programs over the course of the following five years. More than twenty students from Muscatine High School traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hebei Province from January 24 to 30, with Xi’s approval. The American students penned a letter to Xi on January 28, shortly before their trip came to an end, expressing their appreciation and happiness for the invitation.

“Seeing is believing,” Xi responded, urging the Muscatine High School students to return to China and more American youth to visit China. Fridley told Xinhua, “Some of our sister schools have invited us back on some trips.” “As soon as we receive an invitation, we want to invite Chinese students, families, and teachers back to Muscatine, Iowa. After that, we aim to bring children to China. At the gathering, American students sang a Chinese song written especially for the relationship between China and Muscatine as a thank you.
