ME will provide identity documents to unauthorized migrant laborers in Malaysia

Undocumented migrant workers in Malaysia are to return home after paying a 500 Ringgit fine between March 1 and December 31. The Myanmar Embassy in Malaysia has stated that it will provide a certificate of identity (C of I) upon verification. The Malaysian government declared that undocumented foreigners in the nation must depart within 14 days after paying a 500 Ringgit fine at immigration offices, providing a passport or C of I and a return ticket on a stated date between March 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.

In order to return to Myanmar before the deadline, Myanmar nationals without a passport can apply in person at the embassy for a C of I. If their identity is confirmed, a C of I will be provided, according to the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia is currently taking strong enforcement action against unauthorized laborers. This notice suggests that after the deadline has passed, there will be additional arrests. It causes anxiety in the workforce. However, they even refuse to live without official documents. They traveled to Malaysia in order to find employment, according to a migrant worker from Myanmar. According to the embassy, citizens of Myanmar can text the embassy’s WhatsApp number, +60 1125105774, to inquire about consular assistance.
